Welcome to Christina’s Couch

Life happens on my couch.

The couch has received a bad rap. You are a “couch potato” if you spend hours on the couch watching TV and eating. Training programs have been developed to help people get up and get moving. Lounging on the couch for long hours implies that you are not active enough, wasting time, and should do something else with your life.

However, it has recently occurred to me that the couch is the second most occupied piece of furniture (after the bed) where you will find me. I’m a stay-at-home mom, which means I do not have a desk chair at an office, nor do I travel much in a car.

Therefore, life happens on my couch. It’s made me who I am, and where the Lord is currently using me in this world:

>>>Jesus meets me on my couch. It’s where I read my Bible, pray, and journal. I have tears that have soaked into the fabric. I’ve dug my elbows into the cushions as I’ve begged God on my knees. It’s where I hear the Spirit speaking most often.

>>> The couch is where I have spent hours and hours of writing down the good, the bad, and the ugly as I experienced the grief of losing my two babies. As I prayed and cried out to the Lord in my pain, He gave me revelations as I wrote. The result was my first book, Living Hope, and His healing power and touch through my grief. I’m praying it’s only the beginning of whatever else He has for me to write while sitting on my couch.

>>> One or all of the members of my family are together on my couch. My children start their school day at the kitchen table, but by the end of the day, I have taught at least one of the 3 “Rs” (reading, ‘riting, or ‘rithmetic) on the couch. I have breastfed my four children for hundreds of hours. We read, watch movies, snuggle, and laugh there. Most importantly, the couch is where we teach and discipline our children, training them up in the truths of the Bible.

>>> My deepest relationships are nurtured on my couch. Most every important and life-changing conversation with Brett occurs sitting on our worn cushions. We listen to each other, cry, pray, argue, make up, laugh, dream, budget, etc. My dear friends pour out their hearts on my couch, and I have been raw in my own struggles. I have confessed my deepest, darkest secrets, and I have been rebuked of sin, I have repented. I have hurt others and been deeply hurt, yet experienced unexpected, grace-filled reconciliation.

Conversations transpire. Hope renews. Transformation follows.

Life happens on my couch…and I’d love for you to join me.

Christina’s Couch is where you’ll experience:

Real Conversations

One of my readers commented, “I felt surprised you wrote something because I have had similar thoughts but did not verbalize them aloud.” I’m tired of us living behind screens, pretending to have it all together, feeling the pressure to be this, and do that. Then we wonder why we are anxious, depressed, not healthy nor happy.

On my couch, there is no need for masking who you are, no makeup and filters, or fear of offending. My couch is comfy and safe, while honest and raw. Just please ignore the Cheerios in the cracks and the hot pink nail polish stain. (I take the blame for that one.)

Renewed Hope

What happens on my couch is not flashy. It’s not Instagram reel-worthy, nor Pinterest pin-praiseworthy. No, it’s the daily grind. Repetitious, simple, ho-hum to the world’s standards. Somewhere, somehow we have lost sight of what’s real, important, and eternal. We’ve believed the lie that the mundane life is not good enough. Translation: You are not good enough. So we have run desperately after anything to bring us purpose and value, yet the aftermath has left us weary, lonely, insignificant, and hopeless.

My desire is to bring all of life to the Gospel. We can find purpose and renewed hope by intersecting the Truth found in God’s Word with our life experiences, whether it’s the “little” everyday things or the “big” life-changing things.

Radical Transformation ~

Once we become authentic and hopeful, the goal is not to stay on the couch. My focus is to increase our faith, trust, and love for Jesus Christ, resulting in radical transformation. I pray that when you get up off my couch, you are ready to run the race that He has purposed for you, even if it is on your own couch, pouring into those seated with you.

Real Conversations. Renewed Hope. Radical Transformation.

Take a seat. Get comfy. Welcome to Christina’s Couch.
